Tasmanian tiger clone dismissed
The controversial attempt to clone a Tasmanian tiger has been dismissed as an impossible project.
The senior curator of molecular biology at Museum Victoria, JANETTE NORMAN, says shewould stake her life that there won't be a living thylacine in 10 years.
Dr NORMAN is the latest scientist to attack the project headed by Australian Museumdirector MICHAEL ARCHER.
Professor ARCHER says the extinct animal can be reassembled from DNA taken from a pupthat's been preserved in ethanol since 1866.
But Dr NORMAN says the pup's DNA would have broken down into tiny fragments, with somebits missing and nothing intact.
The last known thylacine died in 1936.
