Caps roar back, stun Rangers

Jason Chimera scored 12:36 into the second overtime, and the Washington Capitals completed a stunning three-goal comeback to beat the Rangers 4-3 Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden and push New York to the brink of elimination.

The Rangers scored three times in the second period to take a 3-0 lead and seemed poised to head back to Washington all even in the series for Game 5 on Saturday. But now the top-seeded Capitals have a 3-1 lead and can advance with a win at home.

Alexander Semin started Washington's rally, and Marcus Johansson scored twice in the third to make it 3-3. New York had been the only NHL team this season to be perfect (29-0) when leading after two periods.

Sabres' Miller blanks Flyers

Ryan Miller made 32 saves, and the Buffalo Sabres beat the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 1-0 to even the Eastern Conference first-round series at 2-2. Jason Pominville scored at 9:38 of the first period to help the Sabres rebound from two straight losses.

After a 1-0 victory in Game 1, Miller became only the third Sabres goalie to register two shutouts in one playoff series — and the first since Dominik Hasek in 1994.

Penguins prevail in two OTs

James Neal scored 3:38 into the second overtime to give visiting Pittsburgh a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 29 shots — 12 in the extra periods — to help the Penguins take a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference series despite 50 saves by Lightning goalie Dwayne Roloson.

Red Wings finish off sweep

The Detroit Red Wings capped a 4-0 sweep of their first-round series with the Phoenix Coyotes with a 6-3 victory in Glendale, Ariz., in what could have been the Coyotes' final game in Phoenix.

Ducks tie series with Predators

Corey Perry's short-handed goal at 1:17 of the third period put Anaheim ahead to stay, and the visiting Ducks beat Nashville 6-3 to tie the Western Conference series at 2-2.
